Employee welfare entails all those activities of employer which are directed towards providing the employees with certain facilities and services in addition to wages or salaries. These include provisions on safety, health and welfare. Thus from this study, it is found that the welfare measures provided by the Construction industry directly impact the work competence of the employees. The statutory schemes are those schemes that are compulsory to provide by an organization as compliance to the laws governing employee health and safety. Employee welfare includes monitoring of working conditions, creation of industrial harmony through infrastructure for health, industrial relations and insurance against disease, accident and unemployment for the workers and their families. An employee welfare scheme plays a major role to secure social justice and equity, reduce the industrial unrest and to improve productivity, so emphasis is made on the study of welfare measure activities in NTPC Ltd. In this case, the marginal return of those investments is offset by the marginal cost due to opportunistic unskilled employees. Employee welfare measures can be provided by the employer, government for the better life of the employee and for improving the standard of living. statutory and non-statutory welfare schemes (Cole, 2002).
